Former Orlando Pirates striker Andries Sebola has urged his former club to bolster their attack by acquiring Stellenbosch FC's Iqraam Rayners.
Rayners has emerged as one of the most exciting prospects in the DStv Premiership, scoring 15 league goals this season.
Despite narrowly missing out on the Golden Boot, his performances have caught the attention of several clubs, including Pirates.
Sebola believes that Rayners would be a valuable addition to the Buccaneers squad, particularly in their quest to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns for the league title.
"I still believe that Pirates need to go outside the country because most of the quality players are at Sundowns," he said.
"So, looking at Rayners, if they can convince Stellenbosch to bring him on board, it will be good."
Sebola also highlighted the importance of addressing Pirates' defensive frailties. "Even though we know some coastal players, when they come to Gauteng, they struggle," he explained.
"So the striking force is where Orlando Pirates needs to reinforce, and also at the back."
The former striker believes that Pirates should also consider strengthening their midfield, despite having talented players like Miguel Timm, Thabang Monare, and Thabiso Monyane.
"In the midfield, they have those players, but I still feel they need one player in the midfield."
Pirates' lack of firepower has been evident this season, with Zakhele Lepasa, Kermit Erasmus, and Evidence Makgopa all struggling to find the net consistently.
Tshegofso Mabasa has been the team's top scorer with 10 goals, but his loan spell from Moroka Swallows is set to expire at the end of the season.
The signing of Rayners could provide Pirates with the attacking threat they need to compete at the highest level.
His pace, skill, and goalscoring ability would complement the likes of Lepasa, Erasmus, and Mabasa, giving the Buccaneers a potent attacking lineup.
As Pirates prepare for the Nedbank Cup final against Mamelodi Sundowns and the upcoming 2023/24 season, the acquisition of Rayners would be a significant statement of intent from the Soweto giants.
