WHAT HAPPENED?
Mfundo Vilakazi opened the scoring for the Soweto giants six minutes into the match by finishing a Reeve Frosler feed on Saturday.
Nkosingiphile Ngcobo then grabbed Chiefs' second goal five minutes into the second half to seal victory for Amakhosi.
It was a result which sent Chiefs into the final of the Home of Legends Cup where they will now meet the winner of the other semi-final match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Chippa United.
HOW CHIEFS AND ARROWS LINED UP
Amakhosi assistant coaches Cedric Kaze and Khalil Ben Youssef were in charge in the absence of head coach Nasreddine Nabi who remained in Gauteng recovering from a medical procedure.
Bruce Bvuma started in goal for Amakhosi while regulars like Bradley Cross, Yusuf Maart, Mduduzi Shabalala, Vilakazi and Ashley du Preez were also in the Amakhosi lineup.
Centre-back Zitha Kwinika and defensive midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa were given chances to start together with Pule Mmodi and Given Msimango.
Arrows also had regulars like Knox Mutizwa, Lungelo Nguse, Nhlanhla Zwane and Velemseni Ndwandwe in their lineup.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
With Chiefs fielding most of their regular players, the Home of Legends Cup is seen as a tournament that will help Amakhosi stars stay in shape.
The Soweto giants have been struggling, failing to win their last three games in all competitions and the Gqeberha tournament is taken as an opportunity for the coaches to fix the team's errors.
It is also a tournament expected to help Amakhosi keep themselves from being rusty, having last been involved in competitive action on November 2.
WHAT NEXT FOR CHIEFS?
Now that Amakhosi have progressed to the Home of Legends final, they are hoping to gain confidence by winning their second unofficial trophy of the season after the Cufa Cup.
After that, Chiefs return to Premier Soccer League business by hosting Richards Bay on November 27.
