As the January transfer window approaches, Kaizer Chiefs are ramping up efforts to strengthen their squad. Despite signing seven players in the offseason, coach Nasreddine Nabi is eager to further bolster the team as he strives to rebuild after last season’s tenth-place finish.
The Soweto Giants have shown flashes of brilliance but remain inconsistent. Nabi faces the challenge of creating cohesion among the squad to elevate them to the level of top rivals like Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. Patience and time are essential for the team to gel and produce consistent results.
Among the players linked with Chiefs is Oswin Appollis, who has been impressive in the Premier Soccer League. Others include Fiston Mayele, Percy Tau, and Asanele Velebayi. The latter was a target during the offseason, but Chiefs' bid was rejected by Cape Town Spurs, who deemed the offer too low.
Sports agent Lance Davids shed light on the failed Velebayi deal. “Chiefs made a second offer with fair add-ons, but Spurs still declined. Their valuation was unrealistic compared to Oswin Appollis, who hasn’t achieved much in the past year,” Davids revealed. Chiefs reportedly offered R5 million plus players, while Spurs initially demanded R12 million, later reducing it to R10 million.
Despite setbacks, Nabi remains focused on securing impactful signings to reshape the team’s trajectory. The January window presents an opportunity for the club to close critical gaps and reinforce its ambitions for a return to glory. Only time will tell if the new additions can help the Glamour Boys reclaim their place among the PSL elite.
