Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly considering a mid-season decision to part ways with one of their recent signings, Rwandan international Fiacre Ntwari, just months after his arrival. The club may also revisit a player they previously rejected during the last transfer window.
Chiefs’ Summer Signings and Squad Struggles
At the start of the current season, Chiefs made significant moves in the transfer market, signing seven players with the aim of revitalizing their squad. These new additions included Bongani Sam, Rushwin Dortley, Fiacre Ntwari, Inacio Miguel, Gaston Sirino, Bradley Cross, and Njabulo Blom. However, the team’s struggles have persisted, with Chiefs sitting in 9th place in the league, having secured just three wins from nine games.
A major concern for the team last season was a porous defense, compounded by ongoing uncertainty regarding the goalkeeper position. Captain Itumeleng Khune was sidelined due to indiscipline, while both Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Pietersen were unable to deliver consistent performances. To address the issue, Chiefs signed Ntwari, but the Rwandan has yet to make a significant impact and has since lost his starting role in the squad.
Possible Move for Nwabali in January
With the club continuing to seek defensive reinforcement, reports indicate that Chiefs are eyeing a potential move for Chippa United’s goalkeeper, Nwabali, in the January transfer window. According to Soccer Laduma, the two clubs could discuss a swap deal involving Ntwari and Nwabali. A source close to the situation revealed, “Don’t rule out the possibility of a swap deal between Chiefs and Chippa for Ntwari and Nwabali. Both clubs are expected to discuss a potential deal in January as Chiefs look to strengthen their goalkeeping department.” As Chiefs look to address their defensive woes and stabilize their squad, the possibility of bringing in Nwabali could signal a new direction for the club’s goalkeeping strategy.
